During world war II trade routes between Lebanon and France were either blocked or disrupted. The government of Lebanon during that time had to resolve the shortage of low value coins by authorizing a factory (The railway workshop) in Aleppo - Syria to coin the following denominations: 1/2, 1 and 5 Piasters.
The coins were crudely struck, accordingly many varieties exist.
If you have any further information about the involved mint workshop or this event kindly contact us.
