Definition
A coin edge with grooved lines that run vertically around its perimeter (vertical striations) is called Reeded Edge.

When the reeded edge of a coin strikes the surface of another coin it may leave a mark or a series of marks, these are known as reeding mark(s) or milling mark(s).
